Medical

Winter and Smith have made over 20,000 medical devices to date and have been manufacturing electronic products for the medical industry for over 15 years. We are the ideal low risk solution for getting products manufactured. We have recently been audited by the Marshalls of the United States Food and Drug Administration for the approval to manufacture electronics devices suitable for import into the USA. Our capabilities:

  • Neoden K1830 fully automatic pick and place machine
  • TWS Quadra pick and place machine
  • Manual Pick and place machine, capable of placing unusual shaped surface mount components
  • TWS solder paste application table for use with Framed Solder Paste Masks
  • High magnification board inspection camera system
  • Two TWS OV850 reflow ovens
  • Ersa HR1000A SMD rework station
  • Full prototype and test jig manufacturing facilities
  • Full electronics test facilities
  • Raise3D Pro 2 3d printing facilities
  • CNC milling machine for Front Panels
  • Machine shop featuring pillar drills, an industrail lathe, sheet metal guilotine and pantogrph engraving machine
  • Ability to etch in house prototype PCBs

Over the years Winter & Smith have pursued the philosophy of investing in machinery where possible to do the job, as such we have a low number of staff capable of producing a high number of boards. With the capability of getting professional circuit boards made for a production run in a couple of days, and our extensive contacts in the electronics supply chain – we are capable of starting assembly of products within a few days of getting the go-ahead. We have also designed, manufactured and written software for medical test equipment for a variety of customers, including the Royal Marsden Hospital and the department of Biochemical Engineering at UCL. Recent medical design work has included a system to monitor respiratory health. This project included electronics design, PCB design, embedded software, PC software, product testing and the medical/CE Approvals. Another recent project is an evaluation system for gas sensors to detect various chemicals in the human breath and see how the sensors perform over time.
